Paliperidone belongs to a class of medications called atypical antipsychotics. It is extensively used to treat the symptoms of schizophrenia( A severe mental disorder in which the patient loses touch with reality and is unable to think clearly)

MECHANISM OF ACTION:

Like any other atypical antipsychotic drug, Paliperidone works by antagonizing the dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors present in the brain, thereby balancing the level of dopamine and serotonin and reducing hallucinations.

INDICATIONS:

Schizophrenia

Used as an adjunct drug for treating depression

Mild liver dysfunction

Mild renal impairment

DOSAGE:

General dose: 6 mg orally once a day

Dose range: 3 to 12 mg per day

Maximum dose: 12 mg/day

DRUG INTERACTIONS:

Consult a doctor before taking this medication if you are already taking any of the following medicines: alprazolam, lorazepam, zolpidem, opioid pain, or cough relievers
