Cefuroxime belongs to a class of medications known as cephalosporin antibiotics. It is widely used to treat the symptoms of bacterial infections.

INDICATIONS:

Pharyngitis

Acute maxillary sinusitis

Chronic bronchitis

Acute otitis media

Tonsillitis

MECHANISM OF ACTION:

Cefuroxime acts by inhibiting the syntheses of bacterial cell walls, it does so by inhibiting the formation of certain proteins in them, thereby rendering them defenseless to environmental factors and ultimately killing them.

DOSAGE: Adults and teenagers?250 to 500 mg twice a day.

Children- 250 mg twice a day.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Consult a doctor before using this medication if you are already using any of the following medicines: furosemide, esomeprazole.

SIDE EFFECTS: Common side effects of this drug includes: gas,

upset stomach,

fever,

cough,

stuffy nose,
