METALOSTAR

METALOSTAR is a type of diuretic (water pill) medicine. This medicine reduces excess fluid levels in the body and is used to treat edema (fluid overload) associated with heart, liver, kidney, or lung disease. It is also used in treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure).

MECHANISM OF ACTION:

Metolazone is a thiazide-like diuretic that works primarily in the distal convoluted tubule of the nephron in the kidneys. It inhibits the sodium-chloride symporter, reducing the reabsorption of sodium and chloride ions. This leads to increased excretion of sodium, chloride, and water, resulting in diuresis (increased urine output). It also causes mild potassium loss and can reduce fluid overload in conditions like heart failure or hypertension. By decreasing blood volume, metolazone helps lower blood pressure and reduce edema.

DOSAGE: 1 Tablet once or twice a day, based on the condition of the patient or as directed by the doctor.
