Olmesartan belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). It is widely used for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension), and other cardiovascular problems.

MECHANISM OF ACTION:

Angiotensin is the enzyme responsible for constriction of the blood vessels and increasing the blood pressure.Olmesartan blocks the action of angiotensin II by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptors in vascular smooth muscles, thereby dilating the blood vessels and stabilising the blood pressure.

DOSAGE:

20 – 40 mg orally once a day, based on the condition of the patient, or as directed by the physician.
