Omeprazole belongs to a class of medications called proton-pump inhibitors. It is extensively known for its effectiveness in treating problematic conditions such as stomach ulcers & acid refluxes.

MECHANISM OF ACTION:

Omeprazole works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach produces, by blocking a system in the cells of your stomach called the proton pump. The proton pump works in the final step of acid production. When the proton pump is blocked, your stomach makes less acid.

INDICATIONS:

GIT ulcers

Heartburn

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Zollinger?Ellison syndrome

May help prevent cancer of the esophagus.

DOSAGE:

Dose range varies from 20 – 60 mg once in a day, based on the condition of the patient.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

Consult your doctor if you are already taking any of the following medicines: rilpivirine, diazepam, carbamazepine, clozapine, indinavir, nelfinavir.

Some patients may experience gas,nausea, headache while using this medication.
