PERFIDONE (Pirfenidone) belongs to a class of medications called pyridones.

INDICATIONS:

This medication is used for the treatment of IPF. (Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis)

It is a rare, progressive illness of the respiratory system, characterised by the thickening and stiffening of lung tissue, associated with the formation of scar tissue.)

MECHANISM OF ACTION:

PERFIDONE (pirfenidone) reduces fibroblast proliferation, inhibits transforming growth factor-beta stimulated collagen production, and reduces the production of fibrogenic mediators, as a result of which it halts the thickening process of lung tissue and prevents further scarring.

DOSAGE:

Initial dose: 200-267 mg, three times a day. (801 mg/day)
