Azathioprine Tablets IP 50mg.
ATHIOCARE (Azathioprine) is in a class of medications called immunosuppressants. It works by decreasing the activity of the body’s immune system.
INDICATIONS:
Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Prevention of Organ Rejection in Transplant Patients.
MECHANISM OF ACTION:
ATHIOCARE (Azathioprine) is an immunosuppressant. It reduces the action of the body’s own defence system (the immune system) and prevents rejection of the transplanted organ. It also blocks the action of certain chemical messengers that are responsible for inflammation, swelling, and redness associated with certain joint diseases.
DOSAGE:
Transplantation
3-5 mg/kg/day Orally initially on day of transplant
Maintenance: 1-3 mg/kg/day
Rheumatoid Arthritis
1 mg/kg/day orally initially in single daily dose or divided every 12hr; after 6-8 weeks, increase by 0.5 mg/kg/day every 4 weeks; not to exceed 2.5 mg/kg/day
Maintenance: Reduce daily dose by 0.5 mg/kg every 4 weeks until lowest effective dosage is reached
